Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks East Sleeper, NH
Trails
Trails: Downes Brook Trail, Kate Sleeper Trail, East Sleeper Spur
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, June 25, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: About 6 cars at 8:30, probably 10 around 4:30. Looks like many came and went during the day for the shorter hikes from the trail head
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: 10 crossings of Downes Brook were all easy rock hops today. A few other feeder streams to cross, but all dry or easy step overs. Just a bit of mud in places
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Downes Brook Trail is a bit narrow in places higher up, but not too bad. Many blow downs along the trail too, but easy to step over most, and climb over just a couple. This is all in a wilderness zone though, so options might be limited. Impressive cleanup on Kate Sleeper Trail in the large blow down patches up there.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a few that seemed to be enjoying themselves. Plenty of places to swim and drink on Downes Brook, but dry along Kate Sleeper Trail
Bugs
Bugs: A bit annoying when stopped. On the descent they seemed to follow you while moving closer to the trail head
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Found: Size M gray Wake Forest sweatshirt hanging in a tree. Brought it down to the trail head and hung it near the self pay envelopes

Comments
Comments: A warm day with little wind up high. Planned to grab the Tripyramids as well, but played it safe and just went back down after East Sleeper (86/100 now). Congrats to the hiker finishing his NEHH today on East Sleeper
