Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Levels were low so no issues, though many would be difficult after some rain
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Overall trails in good shape - some bog bridges in better shape than others, but even the ones down to one rotting board are more helpful than no bridge at all. Trail is very grown in for about a hundred yards just past (west of) the Anderson Brook crossing around the Camp 19 clearing, not too difficult to follow but unexpected with the rest of the trail being very easy to follow. Nancy herd path was easier to follow than expected (see below). Some drainage ditches below the cascades looked like they had been cleaned during the day - thanks for the trail work.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Hannah had a good day - plenty of water along the entire hike to stay cool and no issues with the terrain
Bugs
Bugs: Annoying from Norcross Pond to Carrigain Notch trail and back, and the last mile to the car - not biting but buzzing around when there was no breeze - bug stuff helped a bit

Comments
Comments: Good day to check out a new area - nice steady ascent to Nancy Cascades, good footing most of the way and the rerouted section wasn't as much of a PUD as I was expecting. The cascade is fabulous, even with the lack of recent rain. The steep section up to Nancy Pond is tricky with lots of erosion and large roots to scramble over. The section along the three ponds is nice, fairly flat with good reroutes bypassing the previously flooded sections I'd read about, very little mud or water in the trail. The herd path for Nancy was surprisingly easy to follow, but you need to pay attention in a few places - about 25 yards from the start at a small clearing, stay to the left at the fork. After the path heads left for a bit, when you see a slide area straight ahead, bear right up the hill on some steep slabs (even yesterday they were wet so watch your footing). At the top of these, don't head up the loose scree to the left but head far right back into the woods (there are a few old logs on the ground to help guide you) - once back in the woods, path is easy to follow to the summit - it gets very steep and brushy at times, reminded me a bit of the herd path up South Percy peak, but good footing. Great outlook from the summit towards the Presi's, Dry River valley and Stairs Mtn. Red lined the rest of Nancy Pond trail out to Carrigain Notch trail - wonderful footing and a nice gradual descent through beautiful woods, even though the bugs were much worse in this section. Wonderful solitude with a few glimpses towards Carrigain near the junction. Took a long break at Norcross Pond on the way back to cool off and enjoy the stellar view towards the Pemi. Uneventful trip back to the car, we hustled at the end to get away from the bugs. Fabulous hike with lots of variety - a bit warm but we only saw two people all day - thanks Hannah for another fun adventure!
