| Comments: |
we started the hike up the road mentioned above. there is a camp just up the road, but no prohibitions. past the camp the road became grassy and soon merged with a snowmo trail which we followed north (left) for about 50 yards before turning right onto a woods road heading right at the peak. this road was a great find as it took us a fair way up the mountain on our planned bearing. the walking was good without much growth underfoot. higher up the road began to fade and we continued up in mostly open woods. patches of dense ferns and hobblebush made occasional tough footing. the best woods drew us a bit south, but we made it up onto the ridge a south of the summit fairly quickly. we turned towards the highpoint and went over a couple false bumps with wet sags before climbing up to the recognized highpoint. woods up top turned to evergreen, but were never too scrappy. this is also when it started to rain for a few minutes making for a wet bushwhack down. we stuck roughly to our ascent route as it had been so good and eventually stumbled back onto the road and followed it out. |
