Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: From Route 26, West Branch Road is on the south side and begins at a large ATV parking area east of Dixville Notch, we drove to the intersection of Old Kelsey Notch Road/Cohos Trail, better road continues right to windfarm, we drove a short distance down to a locked gate where only ATVs are welcome to drive around. We parked just off the edge before the gate. We gained nothing but we were out of the way of West Branch Road and that may have been a good thing because on our way out we met men and equipment grading the road. Road is ok but probably wouldn't want to take your Dad's sedan.

Comments
Comments: We had an early start and it was felt even hotter than yesterday! At intersection before the gate a trail sign read 3 miles to Shelter. We followed the old road/ATV trail, it felt like a 1/3 of a mile maybe, to just before the height of the land where the yellow blazed Kelsey Notch Trail enters the woods on the left--look for the blazes and signs because this comes up quickly. Lucky for us the trail was about as dry as it gets due to the weather! Nice woods and some vistas along the way. We marched right to the Shelter and took a short break since we walked past where we obviously should have started our bushwhack. We backtracked a minute and entered the woods heading north and it was easy because the moose have a made a path right to the recognized high point. We then returned to the Shelter and enjoyed the vista. This is a nice section of the Cohos Trail and we enjoyed our hike back to the car. We were in downtown Colebrook by noon and ate goodies from the French Bakery. Thanks Becca!
