Comments
Comments: Hit the trail hard and since I had a turn around time that I had to stick to yesterday. Easy hiking to the Stairs Col intersection, trail completely dry. I went less than a mile up Stairs Col and then whacked nearly straight up. Other than the first few minutes of bushwhacking it was steep all the way, first through nice hardwoods, then mixed woods and then thick spruce up high. When I first neared the top in a mess of blowdowns I crawled up on a rock and got a nice view of Stairs and "back stair". High point is at southeast end of contour and for a while there I wasn't sure I was going to find it. On the return I went up the middle north on some surprising moose herd paths and stayed away from the west edge of the top and that was helpful but I am glad I went that way on the way up on account of the cool vista. Going down made me realize just how steep the climb up really was and I had to crab-walk down some sections. Register had not been signed since December.
