| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking at the Elwell Trailhead across from Wellington State Park - no cars in lot at sundown. However, this was the first time I noticed the iron ranger at the kiosk with $4 "suggested donation" sign. Doesn't look like donation is *required* but not really sure - saw it after hike. |

Heard some kind of close/loud/scary/horror-movie-esque animal screams from 2 directions as I entered dark woods - kinda caught me off guard - not sure if it was coyotes or fisher cats - you may want to keep your hiking chihuahua or feline on a short leash - ? |

West side of Goose Pond had a couple of large OLD deadfalls; got a bit confused where trail went on backside of pond near old woods road but soon found red-tipped trail stakes; WONDERFUL reflective trail dots on trees (yellow and/or orange, depending on trail) on the descent from Little Sugarloaf which I did by headlamp - NICE to have the reflectors
Terrific trail run! I had never been on the west side of Goose Pond - my new favorite trail - SO freaking pretty! Will be really awesome when the leaves start to turn!!! VERY active beaver area - got warned with tail slaps and got to see the little fellas swim - cool! Amazing views from Little Sugarloaf, as usual. |
