Trails
Trails: Gordon Path, Brook Path, road walk
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, October 23, 2016
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: As always, the Ferncroft lot is well-kept and has a nice, clean outhouse as well. The little lot that serves for the Brook Path (along the Chinook Trail road) is good as well.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All bridged!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few blow downs, all manageable. These trails are nicely managed by the WODC (thanks!) and are well-blazed, but the some of the signs are small, so you must pay attention. There are a few herd paths that intersect the trails, but the trail is marked well enough so that you should not go wrong.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: We were greeted at the trail head by a rambunctious retriever who jumped into my car and snatched my gloves! His owner came along a couple minutes later. Friendly dog, just needs a little education (no harm done). Saw some others when we returned to the lot. This would be a good hike for most dogs; there is plenty of water and no dangerous ledges.
Bugs
Bugs: GONE!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: WODC has attached a sturdy plastic basket to their kiosk for found items. Great idea!

Comments
Comments: Great choice for a rainy or foggy day hike. It was raining/sleeting when we arrived, but there were still many vehicles in the lot. Lovely woods walk. some leaves down, but still a lot of color. Did not read the description of the Brook Path before, so had a few nice surprises during the Brook Path walk. While it looks rather flat on the map, there is an area where there is enoough of a drop to produce a beautiful water fall. There is also an old mill here as well. Interesting artifacts. We walked along 113A to return to our car. There is an historic maker commemorating the Chinook Kennels. Very pretty road walk.
