Trails free of snow until Black Pond bushwhack, where there was a trace of snow. Snow depth increased along Lincoln Brook Trail/Brutus Bushwhack/Owl's Head Path from a trace to 2-4" on the Brutus bushwhack all the way to the summit. There were even a few 6-8" drifts between the old summit and new summit. Traction was definitely helpful on the slick and steep sections on the way up and down. We put tractioin on after the skidder road portion of the Brutus bushwhack and took it off once we got back the skidder road on the way down. All of these conditions will most likely change with the weather systems over the next few days, but that it is what we encountered on 10/27.
Congrats to the one gentleman we were surprised to see on Owl's Head who was finishing his all season 48!
Thanks to Claudette for another fast and fun trip to the Owl, although it was too bad the Spanish lady did not come along for the adventure! |
