| Water Crossing Notes: |
Wore spikes for the upper crossing of RB, the only crossing we did, due to icy rocks. Water levels are relatively low, and there is lots of beautiful ice forming around the exposed rocks. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Yeah... there are drainage issues. ;p We unclogged lots of waterbars on RBT with just boots and poles. Isolation Trail's drainage issues are beyond our, uh, expertise.
Thanks to whoever cut the blowdowns on Isolation Trail! |

| Comments: |
Trace to an inch of snow down low, progressing to 3-4" on Davis Path. As usual, Engine Hill BW was the best part of the hike. Picked a good line and zigged and zagged to check out as many birch glades as we easily could. Saw fresh moose sign in a couple of glades.
Footing is tedious, especially on Isolation Trail, with lots of standing water, half frozen booby trap mud pits, icy rocks, etc. If you wear anything but waterproof footwear right now, you will not be happy. We put on spikes at river crossing and wore them to the summit (brr...!) and back to river crossing. Spectacular day (except for the footing)! 520/576... |
