Comments
Comments: Out-and-back from Crawford Notch to Zealand Falls Hut and the Zeacliff outlook, also visiting Mt. Tom on the way back. Views from Zeacliff, but Mt. Tom was largely in the clouds. Cold enough to discover the freezing point of Gatorade. Was able to make the entire trip in snowshoes- though the coverage was bony, with some exposed rocks, on the bottom mile of the Avalon Trail- as well as the short segment of the Twinway below Zealand Falls Hut. The western section of the A-Z Trail was entirely untracked powder- 6-12" in places- and the Twinway from Zealand Hut to Zeacliff outlook had a fair bit of powdery snow as well. Both the Twinway and the A-Z Trail should be well packed-out at this point, given the other hikers I encountered on the trip. Nice job to the group of 4 hikers I passed going up Twinway- on their winter traverse of Zealand and the Bonds!
