Comments
Comments: Snowshoes car to car today - happy to see the trail broken out beyond the Mt. Willard trail, and then towards both Field and Tom at the AZ Avalon junction. Passed a few groups heading up towards Mt. Avalon, once we were the first tracks we packed down a few inches of fresh powder, few places had minor drifting but no more than 6-8" of fluffy snow. Trail to Mt. Willey was broken out but no tracks from today when we were there - heading towards Tom we passed a group that asked us if we had headed over to Willey, not sure if they were planning to go across the ridge, either way trail to Willey is broken out but drifted and likely not packed down. Saw many more people heading up to Tom, about 50/50 snowshoes and spikes - the trail from the col down to the AZ Avalon junction was much choppier from barebooters - with more snow in the forecast and winds causing drifting daily, if you hike these mountains in the near future please wear snowshoes - the trail is broken out but not totally packed, and there were a few punch deep throughs along the way from barebooters. Redemption hike success! - was happy to tag Tom after running out of time and energy breaking trail last week - fantastic winter hike with wonderful snowshoeing conditions that were sorely missed last winter - thanks Tim, Ali and Hannah for a great last hike of 2016.
