Snowshoes up to treeline. Slow going breaking out the trail. 1 to 2 foot drifts for most of the way. Above treeline we changed over to microspikes. Very sunny and warm temps on the summit but didn't stay too long due to the high winds. Stayed in spikes until we reached the treeline on the way down. A barebooter whom we never saw had gone down the Jewell before we got back to treeline and unfortunately destroyed the trail with postholes that we broke out. Did our best to smooth most areas with snowshoes but kept twisting ankles... |
