Comments
Comments: Everything was pretty firm until the upper 250 yards of Avalon Trail to summit. Some drifts, a few deep postholes, but not much of an issue as long as you don't step in a posthole someone before had created for us. Didn't don the snowshoes, micros up, mostly sledding down. The Merikan Missiles rocked on this trail, probably got in a mile of sledding out of the 1.8 mile trip down. Saw a guy with a large plate style sled, maybe twice as big as the LL Bean ones. He got a bunch more sledding in than when I did it last year on the Bean ones. Most of the steeper parts had been sled on either today or yesterday, so lots of smooth trail to play on (was expecting posthole hell after that thaw and taking a trail right at the Highland Center, but was pleasantly wrong.
