| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
This time I parked in the upper dirt lot closer to the trail head. I'm not sure if this allowed but I didn't see any no parking signs. |

Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes |

| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction, Traction |

None. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Only one tree too to step over down low. When the snow is gone it may be able to slide out of the trail. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Easy conditions for an experienced winter trail pup. Marlie had no trouble staying on top of the crust if she went off trail. Today we brought some water mixed with beef broth which she enjoyed drinking. |

I wasn't sure what to expect but after barebooting the first .1 mi I decided that crampons would work well at least until the top of the ski trail. I would end up leaving them on for the entire hike due to being too lazy to switch. Microspikes would have worked but I had a sure grip with every step. The snowshoes and microspikes rode on the pack. The trail was firm and I never postholed, however it was very chopped up from the the previous warm weather. There were a few patches of ice below the summit and one slightly confusing split that leads right to the ski trail. The few big and mostly solid drifts on Rim Tr were easy to step over. I think the ice on the observation deck stairs was probably the most dangerous part of the hike.
It was a little warmer than expected which is always nice and it was great meeting and talking to HMJ. Alway nice to put a face to the name.
