Comments: What a great day for a hike. I am one of the two people who carried Hector Rodriguez off the mountain on Sunday. I have no idea what those kids were thinking even being up there. Never seen anyone so unprepared. This gentlemen certainly would have perished if it were not for me and the other hiker who stopped to help. It was sort of a smack in the face when I saw the article's online that fish & game carried this person out since it was anything like that. We called 911 around 3:00 and had we of waited for DEP Hector would be dead. I am not sure what happened but the response time was nothing short of awful! Once we realized no one was coming and it was getting dark we carried this kid over a mile just the 2 of us and about 100 yards from the Flume the first volunteer finally showed up and carried him maybe 100 yards to a snowmobile that then went another 100 yards to parking lot. Sorry but the wrong people took the credit for saving this kid. And I have all the respect in the world for the DEP and what they do but this one was a cluster all around. Lesson hopefully learned here... always be prepared no matter how short of a hike you are doing since you cannot count on anyone but yourself.
