Comments
Comments: i walked the snowmobile travelled road to its junction with a heavily travelled snowmobile corridor. here i turned right, uphill, and followed the trail to roughly its height of land on the north slopes of baldhead. i jumped off at a likely open point and headed up. 2-3 feet of snow on average that was heavy and wet. it was occasionally supportive, but for the most part i punched through. what was nice is it was fairly consistent and not crusty as has been the case often this winter. i worked my way up in a mix of open glades and stretches of evergreens to the summit of baldhead. the only thickish spruce i encountered the whole hike was in the shallow col heading to south baldhead and it was short lived after which it was a mix of open evergreens and hardwood glades to the final climb up south baldhead where mature evergreen forest took over. i hit the summit area a bit west of the highpoint and wandered around a bit to find the recognized point. some deep snow and spruce trap potential around the highpoint. i cut back on a more direct line to my ascent tracks and followed them back out to the snowmobile trail and car.
