Comments
Comments: Used spikes up to the ridge since there was an inch of snow over crusty packed snow. There was a very steep detour around one icy ledge. Farther on the ridge we encountered some snow drifts. Changed to snowshoes before the Jennings Peak spur. The trail to Jennings Peak as well as a section of the Sandwich Mountain trail beyond the Jennings Peak spur was pretty beaten with post holes. Two post holers passed us coming down and apologized for not using snowshoes. Used snowshoes all the way to Sandwich Dome and back to the parking lot. Between our use of snowshoes (4 of us) and several others using snowshoes, the stretch from the Jennings Peak spur to Sandwich Dome is pretty well packed out for snowshoe use. We returned via the Drakes Brook trail for an easier descent. Unfortunately it had a lot of postholes and little evidence of snowshoes.
