| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Yesterday's conditions permitted most any car to get in Cedar Stream Rd. 3.3 mi, to where the plowing stops.
bryan had suggested a route starting a Lake Francis State Park, crossing the lake, and picking up corridor 140 east of the lake. After going back and forth, we were happy with our route as we later learned that corridor 140 is listed as closed to snowmobiles right now. |

We took what is essentially the standard route, walking in on Cedar Stream road and then bushwhacking the peak from corridor 136. The start of the road walk had 4"-6" of powder over a snowmobile packed base (this was all snomo packed by the walk out). By the corridor 140 junction, the road became packed. We continued to follow the road, which is corridor 20 to the corridor 136 junction (gate #195, which was ajar) just after mile 11. This road was snomo packed; we walked about 1/4mi before launching the bushwhack. Snow off trail was 6"-10" powder on a very nicely consolidated base-fairly easy breaking. We went up mainly magnetic south, taking an opening to the east of the line we had taken in the past. We noted that said line is quite wet in 3-season conditions, but very nice walking with yesterday's conditions. About 3/4 of the way up we turned off the opening, into open woods up to the recognized highpoint. The sign that was present in May is missing. We returned by the same route. bryan clocked the round trip at 19.0 mi. I would estimate a breakdown of over 16 mi. roadwalk and less than 3mi bushwhack.
In other conditions news, we learned from a snomobiler that sleds have been to the recognized highpoint on Cedar mtn.-the NH300 highest peak in Clarksville. We don't know their exact route.
