Comments: Bear Island (st john's church location of tower)

So this was pretty interesting/scary as hell. So we set off straigh for the island at the shortest distance. We set off across the lake and hit a very small patch of slush but everything else was hard, or had like two feet of snow on it. We made it across and then i had thiught there was a road on the island, which there are no cars so makes sense of no road haha. We followed the powerlines and the drifts and snow was very deep. It was slow going. I knew there was a trail up to the church so we just started to turn left when we saw it! It was exactly a mile from the car to the top. The wind picked up since we left. We came down quick in our tracks and saw the wind had taken most of the snow off the water. We thought positive as we needed to get back across, thinking all the dark spots were frozen. Welllll we were very wrong. We headed back and hit a slushy spot-but we came out of it quick. It was tough because the next slushy spot was endless and we had to go through it. I chose a way and it was not the right way. I took a few steps hoping it was short and quick and bam my left foot sunk. It sunk and broke through to water. I instantly layed down (not knowing that is a good thing). I just kept thinking no no no this is not happening.i was pulling at my foot but my snowshoe was caught under the slushy ice. Melissa tried to give me her pole-but it broke off. I thought i was going to go in and was hoping to get out before it all let loose if it actually was going to or not. I then thought i need to take my snowshoe and boot off to get out. Probably 30 longest seconds of life but my leg finally pulled up. I got up and noticed my foot was almost out of my boot. We all then booked it to shore. We got back really quick!! Land!!!!! I saw two guys cross the street and look at the water, thinking they were snowmobilers i told them do not cross it is not safe. Yet when beardo talked to them, it sounds like they have been going over on an airboat (or windboat or something that goes over water and ice) doing a joh on bear island. So it sounds like they have been trying to keep the water open. Well we made it back, no one else went in, i didn't fully get in and i only have 4 left! I donMt think i will walk on water again....
