| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We got there before 8:00AM - we had no trouble parking. When we got back to the car at 1:00, there were cars parked along the road as far as the eyes could see. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Postholes |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
There is one small water crossing with a two-plank crossover. If you miss this little bridge, you will drop thigh deep in snow and water. Based on the postholes I saw, it happened to a few people today. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are a lot of low hanging tree branches due to the heavy ice/snow bending them over. Not a big deal, you just have to crouch under them. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw two dogs today. One was having a lot of trouble with snowballs on its paws, other than that they seemed to be fine. My only concern was, with the warm weather, I was afraid they might slip under the deep snow. |

| Bugs: |
not a one |

| Comments: |
The snow was deeper than any snow I have hiked before. We had views of Mount Washington earlier than expected because we were on TOP of the trees!
Several people (who were not wearing snowshoes) dropped down waist deep into the snow. One woman slid into a spruce trap and her friends pulled her out. All of the postholing from hikers bare-booting it up, messed the trail up for people wearing snowshoes. :(
I'm SO glad I got up there early before the masses invaded the beautiful summit. No wind, clear skies, perfect temperatures. |
