| Comments: |
Blueberry Ledge and Rollins Trails are firm crusty and consolidated. It would have been an easy hike except for the numerous bare-booter holes, probably from Saturday which was previously reported. Many of these holes were (no exaggeration) 3' deep. Kate Sleeper Trail was not broken out but we only sunk in about 6"-8" to a good base. Section beyond junction with Downes Brook Trail wsa difficult to follow as blazes were at or below snow depth. We lost the trail in the area of the massive old blow downs from Irene as the depth completely covered any markings. Because of the snow depth we were on top of a lot of trash that would have been impossible to otherwise navigate. Finally intersected with KS tr. again at the signpost near the Spur to East Sleeper. Blueberry Ledges were climbed with relative ease because of the surface conditions but I suspect this will change because they are in the sun most of the day and will turn icy in the future. We wore snowshoes from car to car but light traction could possibly have been worn for most of the Blueberry Ledge trail today. Thanks to friends for making this day very enjoyable. |
