Comments
Comments: Posting our hike from yesterday. Presidential Range for President's Day! We wore snowshoes end-to-end. Went up Crawford Path -- it was a firm super-highway and most folks we saw had spikes on. Heading to Eisenhower the trail was less obvious (and less crowded) since the snow has been blown around or blown off completely with a layer of ice exposed below. Wind was whipping out on the ridge. Ascent of Eisenhower was a mix of windblown snow and some ice, but snowshoe crampons were sufficient for both. Coming back we hit Pierce before heading over to Jackson. Pierce to Mizpah was less well packed than Crawford with numerous low-hanging spruce branches belabored with snow and ice. The trail is generally easy to follow, but there were a couple of dead-end side trails. At Mizpah we met a group of 4 who broke out the Jackson to Mitzpah route (thanks!). We broke it out a bit more, but the track is narrow in places. The snowshoes were needed for this stretch. The low-hangers were worse for this stretch and we were doing A LOT of ducking (with plenty of snow down the back too). We descended from Jackson. The trail down from Jackson was very well traveled and packed hard. It looked like Webster was broken out from Jackson, but we did not have time to get to Webster yesterday.

Side note: we saw a pair of what we think were pine martens at the mizpah cut off-crawford path trail junction. Very cool!
