The trail is really, really overgrown for the first mile. Monorail has eroded at some points, very springlike. We made it to about 4.7k before we lost the trail as it entered a stand of trees beneath Slide Peak. Chest deep drifts and no discernable trail. So unconsolidated and deep that we swam in it in snowshoes. After several valiant tries to pass we ended up having to bail, retrace our steps and drink our celebration beers 7 miles early. Matt, Rebecca and I enjoyed some fine views and big winds on the way back! |
