| Comments: |
Temperature-wise a Spring day with plenty of blue sky and sun - a fact that was apparent from the consistency of the snow : trending to mashed potato.
Fire Warden's : so heavily trafficked by snowshoers and skiers that it was spikeable most of the way up without incident.
Lend-A-Hand : Broken but lightly traveled. Southern exposure meant it was soft and getting softer. Snow shoes a must.
Twin-Way : Trending to mashed potatoes. There was a bare booter up there today who kept falling into crotch deep holes.
We had hoped (dreamed?) to do the loop Hale/Zealand/Guyot/So. Twin/No. Twin. Well reality hit at Zealand summit. From there on tracks from one skier only. We were not going to ruin a fun day by breaking trail the 3 miles from Zealand to So. Twin especially in the soft, wet snow. Also concerned about even finding the trail between Guyot and So, Twin. Thus on to our escape route:
Zealand trail : Well packed. Bare boots as long as you stay on the trail. Postholes otherwise.
Zealand road : The bulldozer has been busy, again.
Greetings to Hiker Ed! Craig L. many thanks for a great day. |
