Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Sawyer River Road is closed for the winter. A high clearance 4WD vehicle could probably drive to the summer lot, not sure if this is legal.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction, Traction, Ice Axe, Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Mostly minor, one larger stream that required jumping between slightly submerged rocks (should have waterproof boots, gaiters and poles for this)
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Several trees across trail, junction of Signal Ridge and Carrigain Notch trails was somewhat hard to find. Veer right when you reach the large clearing/swamp and you'll soon come across the junction.

Comments
Comments: We were pleasantly surprised to find that the marked trails were almost entirely frozen/packed snow...easy walking in boots or microspikes. The bushwhack began with a moderately steep climb up the ravine and quickly transitioned to extremely steep, icy slopes full of dense trees with branches at eye/backpack level. Tough going and only got worse after reaching the summit cone above the talus field. Ice axe helped a lot, crampons/spikes required. The summit canister was not difficult to locate. Nice views from the talus field. A true bushwhack!
