With a 5 degree start to the morning all trails were hard packed only requiring light traction. The snowshoes got a ride yet again.Any postholes we saw today were easily avoided. Snow softened slightly descending Middle Carter with some snowballs to the spikes. The sun was glorious on the ridge as it warmed up in the afternoon. The Carter Dome trail is pretty narrow coming down from Zeta pass! Only one patch of ice on Dome trail. All the little brook tributaries were easy to hop to over. The brook on Carter Dome trail and Nineteen Mile brook trail were gorgeous!! The green water in Nineteen Mile with the ice...beautiful. We saw no one all day. |
