| Comments: |
The conditions were insanely easy and fast-moving -- the only issue might have been the first mile or two of the Bondcliff Trail (including the section that used to be the Wilderness Trail), where snowshoes are helpful to avoid postholing if one strays off the narrow (but firm) monorail. Otherwise, light traction was fine -- on Lincoln Woods and the last couple of miles of trail up to Bondcliff. Summit area of Bondcliff is plate ice, some bare rock, and a few inches of new, drifted snow.
Water crossings were not an issue whatsoever; beneath any iffy ice/snow bridges are low water levels with plenty of exposed rocks to use.
Winds were (as forecast) fierce above treeline. We tagged the summit and left as quickly as possible. (We had considered heading to Bond, but didn't want to deal with the winds.)
A great day to be out. |
