Paid my $10 to walk up Wildcat's groomed trails. After D I caught up with another snowshoer, and we joined forces for the rest of the day. It ain't pretty, but Wildcat Ridge has been broken out. ~15-18? inches of snow. Snowshoes are absolutely necessary!
Surprisingly, the most difficult breaking was encountered descending A to Carter Notch. Snow was deeper on this slope than on the ridge. More like 18-24 inches. Long stretches of ankle-stressing extreme side hilling. The slide crossing was "moderately scary" in the deep, unconsolidated snow. O_O
At the bottom of WRT, another surprise: 19 Mile Brook Trail was completely UNBROKEN, with generally more snow than Wildcat Ridge. So, we got to break that out, too. With only 2 of us, this trail is also not a pretty, broken out path. In retrospect it would have been easier to retrace our steps from A back to the ski area... but 19 MB is always broken out, right?! :D
Thanks to JZ for an awesome afternoon and for parking at 19 MB TH. We got a great workout.
Bring snowshoes!! |
