Went in a little over 2 miles on the Pemi East Side Trail which was well packed and most recently used by XC Skiers.
Headed up through mostly open woods for the first mile and 3/4 finding occasional openings through small fir bands. up to about 3000' elevation these bands only lasted about 20-30 yards and then surprisingly opened into more open woods. At about 3000' we got into some really scrappy fir with no obvious way to get around it. Finally we broke out into the Helicopter pad and the Soalr panel that supplied power to some sort of antennae and communication tower. The recognized summit was a short distance beyond through amazingly open woods. Hard to figure the openness at the summit with cliffs on all three of the four sides. |
