Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail to the hut was mostly well-packed with some ice and a few drifts in the usual places. We carried snowshoes but stayed with light traction to the hut, switching to crampons there for the rest of the hike. We chose a route up Monroe well to the right, facing up, of the trail, getting to the rocks as soon as possible. Slope had some icy sections, not bad. We descended directly off the summit ridge to the southeast, great fun.
Wonderful day with Chris and Allen. We joined up with David and Catherine for the summit push and enjoyed their company and competence. The clouds were lifting in occasional strong winds while we were up high, making for stunning, dynamic scenery. |
