Went from Gray Knob to Edmond's Col via Gray Knob Trail. As the trail winds through the low pines, it's easy to follow; but when it comes out in the snowfields, it is challenging to pick up the trail on the other side. There were old snowshoe tracks; but only visible intermittently. Didn't see a cairn until almost a mile up the trail, I suspect many are buried. Trail is very hard and sloping; crampons are best. Approach to Jefferson required crossing two hard snowfields not far above the col and having neglected to bring my ice axe and being solo, I chose to bail. Gulfside and Adams were easy, except I hate walking on rocks with crampons. In and out of the clouds until descended Adams and then the sun came out full time. Gorgeous day. |
