Comments
Comments: After skirting the posted land, we made our way up the northeast slope of Tuttle Hill. Snowshoes were the best for the entire hike as conditions were consistently wet/soft spring snow. We used a combination of open woods and skid roads to work up to and along the ridge. We followed the ridge over at least three bumps. From the southwest bump we made our way towards Willard, passing over a sub-peak along the way. Prior to reaching the recognized highpoint (and big rock) on Willard, we passed a view from a blowdown area. From Willard, we headed over Robb and on to Bald. Following getting briefly off course near the top of Bald, we made our way to the highpoint and the broken trail. We headed down the west side of the Tamposi trail to the Spur trail junction. From the junction, I went down to the bald mountain trail junction, and back up, to support a trail-bagging goal. We got onto the Spur trail, which has a very illusive right turn off of the woods road, very early on. We followed the blue blazes through wet areas, to the cut with a fine view. As we worked through the cut, Amy spotted a blaze, after we thought the trail had terminated. We got back on trail, finding it fairly straight forward to follow all the way down to the low southern bump that is just above 123. We bushwhacked down towards 123 in open/steep woods, noting some fresh bear tracks. Upon hitting the road, we went back to the car and launched a bushwhack on Rollstone and Holt. With more of the same snow conditions, we worked up in open woods towards Rollstone. From the summit, we worked towards Holt, passing a cut and a false bump. From the recognized highpoint, we dropped down to the north drainage and cut back to the start point. A very interesting afternoon traverse with Nordic Gal.
