| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The Tremont trail has a couple blowdowns - easy walk-arounds. It is well flagged up high. Brunel is a different story. It was untracked and with the paucity of blazes we lost it several times in the hardwoods between Tremont and Owl's Cliff. Finally about 1/2 way up Owl's Cliff we said "to Hell with it" and 'whacked up the fall line to the summit following, for a short while, a herd path that someone had taken the time to open up with a saw. |

| Comments: |
Today's warmth meant mashed potatoes from car to car. A real workout. On the unbroken Brunel which is steep and straight down a South facing slope we had difficulty with our 'shoes taking off down the slope thus setting us on our butts. Butt sliding not possible without getting totally soaked. Coming down Tremont we would occasionally posthole with our snowshoes. So you can attempt to bareboot if you will but I fear you will be greatly disappointed with your progress.
Fantastic views on a (warm) Bluebird day esp. to the South but also North up the Montalban ridge through the leafless trees.
My thanks to The Schorman and Lady Di for another fine day in the woods. |
