Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Water crossings on Bicknell Ridge were rough. Deep, rushing water. There are two river crossings. The one higher up is slightly easier than the one by Emerald pool. Expect rushing, knee-deep water with no crossing options. Since we only had a mile left we just walked right through the river even though boots got soaked.

Comments
Comments: Did the loop clockwise. South Baldface was pretty straight forward and wasn't too bad of a climb. Once you get to the ledges, trail finding is a little tricky. We just followed someones kicked steps. There is a lot of bare rock above treeline. The ridge line between South and North is where all the fun postholing began. There are spots with deep snow and narrow monorail. Expect to posthole ALOT. Trail is in terrible shape right now. It took us about an hour or so to get to North Baldface, and another hour to the Bicknell Ridge trail. I tried snowshoes at one point but they didn't help much. We had to cross two nasty rivers near the bottom of Bicknell Ridge, so prepare to get wet. The first crossing we were able to get across without getting feet wet, but the surprise second crossing (the one that feeds into Emerald pool) was even nastier. Need deep, rushing. We didn't care at that point so just waded across as best we could. Feet got wet, but we were only a mile from the car. Super nice day out, but not super nice trail conditions. It's slow going right now, so make sure you have an early start -- took us 9 hours for the loop.
