What a difference a day made! Yesterday's report said the monorail is stable. A little of it still was today, but mostly everything was disintegrating. A lot of bare areas, but then you're back to an extremely narrow monorail with snow on either side anywhere from an inch or two to three feet deep. Lots of postholing. Lots of mini-bridges breaking up. Due to the very narrow width I did not think snowshoes would help much. We carried them, but ended up using microspikes only. Ledges were all beautiful; great views. Nice warm sunny spots to sit. But you paid for it with these conditions. If you have no tolerance for April messiness, I'd hold off. If you do go, patience is a must. Had fun on the ledge facing Chocorua - hid several pieces of Easter candy for Prema. |
