The trail is a mix of everything at the moment. No snow until above the bare ledges and back in the woods. Travel is very slow going. There was bare rock, stream, strong monorail, collapsing monorail, deep snow in spots, a few short icy patches, and then repeat over and over. The spikes came on, the spikes went off. There were 100-yard-long spots on the trail (usually, of course, over bare rock), good monorail, totally collapsing monorail, and in the afternoon, if it's warm, expect a lot of water on the trail. Expect to take far longer than book time. Never used snowshoes, but I could easily see needing them at the top on a warm day, as the snow in spots is still very very deep. |
