Comments
Comments: Lower elevations have no snow. The hardened monorail started just below the junction of the Crawford Path and Mizpah Cut-Off. The snow cover on the Crawford Path is more consistent between Mizpah Cut-Off and Webster Cliff Trail. No tendency to posthole today as long as one stays on the monorail. The Webster Cliff trail to the summit of Mt Pierce is mainly bare ledges. The Crawford Path between the Webster Cliff Trail and Eisenhower Loop was a mix of conditions; dry ledges, running water, standing water, and a snow monorail. The snow depths were about two to three feet at maximum. There were sufficient rocks in the standing water sections to keep from submerging boots. Microspikes improve traction on the monorail although I easily bare booted the snow on the return from Eisenhower to Webster Cliff Trail. The upper section of the Eisenhower Loop Trail was snow covered with a slush base. There was no monorail in this section. About one foot deep postholing on the Eisenhower snow fields. Gaiters helped out in this stretch.
The cloud based lifted by afternoon to allow for views of Mt Washington. I could see from Maine to Vermont. The helicopter servicing the AMC huts was present most of the day. The Mizpah hut is open with a caretaker according to the sign.
