Pleasantly dry trail well past Mt surprise, including ledges. Around 3100' started getting wet on trail, muddy in places but mostly avoidable. Around 3300' patches of ice, intermittent monorail. Around 3500' and up consistent, stable monorail more like balance beam in parts (existing postholing actually helped define monorail at times). We used spikes at this point, probably could bareboot, but would be slow going on the way down til below snow. Overall pleasantly surprised with conditions for this time of year. Great views of presidentials from ledges and near 360 degrees from peak. Gorgeous day! |
