This was our first hike in the White Mountains and 1st of the 48 peaks which my two sons and I plan on accomplishing. Myself, my 16yo son, and 13yo son parked at the ravine lodge and hiked approx 1 mile from the car to the gorge brook trail. From there we hiked the gorge brook trail to the top of Moosilauke. The hike up was challenging at parts for a 46yo hiking novice, but it was very enjoyable with some great views in sections. The rain the days prior made some some great moving brooks/streams and some small waterfalls. The weather was very clear with only minor clouds. We reached the top in 2hrs 45 minutes from the gorge brook trail head. We spent about 30 minutes at the peak and had our lunch. We witnessed someone completing their 48 peaks that day - complete with a bottle of champagne! We was breezy up top which we needed our fleece and windbreakers for. We hiked down the same way - approx. 2 hours and 15 min to the trail head. car door to car door it took us approx 6 hours total. We left the car at 0905ET and returned just about 1500ET. Great 1st hike. Looking to do many, many more. |
