Parking/Access Road Notes:
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All water crossings doable w/stepping stones and mud avoidance
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Down tree (6-12") slightly north of the Joanne Bass Bross; path is being beaten around it. People beating their way around muddy spots; how to contain? New signs are excellent!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: With recent rain there were streams in the usual places (several in the first mile, then a couple in sags along the ridgeline between the two summits. There's also piped water at South Pack summit with dog bowl.) Also high humidity and damp rocks/soil, nicer footing than the hot rocks and ledges in the summer.
Bugs
Bugs: Good breeze mostly kept off bugs, but there were blackflies at lunch (north Pack) and mosquitoes on the return. People said prev weekend was much worse for mosquitoes.

Comments
Comments: Wapack from Old Mountain Road south to summit of South Pack and return

Hazy day with local views (Wachusett, Monadnock) from fire tower but no Boston. Flowers: mountain laurel was just starting. Always grateful for this beautiful location, esp because there was more rain threatened further north.
