Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Leaves - Significant/Slippery
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Not an issue -- but good to see some flow in the streams. At this time last year, the area was pretty dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: For the most part, trails are in nice shape. There are two blowdowns, the brushy top ends for which block the trail, and require probably some bypass loppers and a small saw/bow saw -- for now, can be walked around. One is on the White Trail right after it turns right, off of the Spectacle Pond Trail. The other is on the Bald Knob Trail, right after it turns right, off of the White Trail.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Yes -- the usual trifecta (ticks, mosquitoes, and eye flies) at this time of the year, plus an occasional deer fly. None of them were that bad or annoying.

Comments
Comments: Nice short hike today, in great conditions. We took the Spectacle Pond Trail to the White Trail to the Bald Knob Trail to Bald Knob, then backtracked on the Bald Knob Trail to the Ledges Trail (Red Trail, marked by small cairn) down to the White Trail and then back to the car.

The views of Spectacle Pond from the Ledges Trail are quite fine.

Ledges Trail is rough, steep trail in some sections, and may be difficult to follow in the middle portion in the hardwoods where blazes are a bit sparse. Quite a bit of dry leaves in the middle section, too, and there were some instances of leaf-surfing on some steep parts.

Note, too, that the section of the White Trail nearest the Spectacle Pond boat launch area is closed at this time of year (except for folks who have property on the pond) for the nearby Circle Program camp.
