| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Dolly Copp Campground is partly closed for renovation and there is no access to the Webster-Scout trailhead OR to the Great Gulf Link trail. There is temporary parking in the campsite administrative area and the Webster-Scott trail has been rerouted. Detour signs are posted and are easy to follow, but the road walk (2.6 mi.) plus detours adds at least 2 miles to the loop route. |

|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
only minor stream crossings, water was low |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
a few blow-downs on the lower part of Webster-Scout trail--one of them may make it hard to see where the trail continues although it is easy to get around. Old blue and yellow blazes on Webster-Scout are worn or gone entirely, and two or three old cairns high on the steep talus section are NOT on the trail and caused me to take a wrong turn. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Broken-up talus with sharp edges in the higher elevations makes this a poor choice for dogs. |
|
| Bugs: |
lots of gnats but no flies on the lower parts of the trails |

| Comments: |
The Webster-Scout trail is very beautiful, but the upper section is quite steep and rough and hard to follow. I had intended to go to the summit of Madison but decided to skip that after losing at least 30 minutes (and a lot of energy) due to making a wrong turn on one of the steeper parts, where you have to bear slightly to the right and ignore a couple of old cairns that seem to be straight ahead up a small dead-end slide. |
