Comments
Comments: First time taking the Great Gulf Trail, done as an overnight 6/21-6/22. Trail is pretty standard "wilderness" up until the two campsites just past the Wamsutta/Six Husbands junction, i.e. unblazed, a little muddy and slightly overgrown. Past them it becomes progressively more rough, slick and overgrown as it approaches the headwall, with occasional blowdowns. It was never difficult to locate the trail, up until the section immediately past Spaulding Lake continuing to the alpine zone sign. There are a number of herd paths for illegal campsites in this area, but the trail itself continues up some overgrown, active stream beds, a few head-scratching "is this really the trail?" moments. First headwall section climbs up through a waterfall, then peters off into bolder scrambling over slightly loose rock. Fantastic trail all the way through (tons of waterfalls) but fairly wet and not recommended in high water. Section of Tuckerman through the actual ravine was still closed due to lingering snow.
