Did about a 10 KM loop around and over Mt Monadnock. We were going to go for a longer multi day trip further north ( the whites ) this week but work requirements changed our plans. The Parker trail(s) and Lost Farm trails were uneventful. Those trails had new blazes painted / placed. Cliff walk was also uneventful with new blazed paint. The Amphitheater trail was at times a bit hard to follow if one was not paying attention. Smith summit was steep but not as steep as White arrow. Got a great surprise at the junction of Pumpelly and Red spot. Three blackhawk helicopters went around the summit and then headed south ( back to Westover AFB? ). The weather was awesome, blue sky and cool temps. It clouded up a little bit mid morning but eventually cleared out. Many birds out in the morning. White throated sparrow, Swainson's thrush, Winter wren, Northern woodpecker, Juncos, Red trailed hawk to name a few. |
