Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Just a short way up the dirt part of the road we hit some serious washouts. We were able to get around 2 of them but the last one looked worse so we parked on the side of the road and walked. It wasn't too far to the trailhead.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Tunnel brook was raging and high. We took off our hiking boots and found a place to cross downstream from the trail. The water went up to our thighs. On the way back it looked higher so we went upstream and found a different place to cross but it was still a strong current.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some washouts from the rain yesterday mostly near the bottom especially at the beginning of the trail head near the brook. We were able to get around the mud and water. The brook went over the bank in many places yesterday. A couple of blow downs but they didn't appear to be new.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Few black flies around the lookout area at around 3200 feet. No bugs on top d/t strong west winds.

Comments
Comments: This was a challenging hike today. It took longer than expected with washouts, high water and lots of running water in the trail like a stream. The daisies were in bloom at the bottom with lots of swallowtails, white admirals and other butterflies. We didn't see anyone on our hike except a couple of people at the bottom who were not hiking and loads of people on the summit that came from other trails.
