Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Packed by the time I got there around 11AM. Had to park along the road.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Significant
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The one crossing on Dicey Mill was thankfully manageable. It was probably higher than normal, but the water was only ankle deep. It appears that most of the water is flowing off the north side of the mountain.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Fresh blowdown on Blueberry Ledge Cutoff that we had to go around. It was close to where the tail first gets close to the Wonalancet River.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Everyone hikes with their dogs on Blueberry Ledge Trail. I know Boomer is a bit more difficult, but it was exhausting helping him up the upper ledges. I saw some who brought their dogs back down the ledges (my initial plan, too) but after working hard to get him up the numerous ledges we decided to take the easy way around The Bowl and down Dicey Mill.
Bugs
Bugs: Present and not phased by bug spray. They were only biting at the junction of Rollins and Dicey Mill. Took Dicey Mill Trail all the way to the farmhouse and found two ticks after walking past their long grass.

Comments
Comments: After the debacle of trying to ascend Downes Brook Trail, Boomer and I called an audible and took the chance on the ledges of Blueberry Ledge. This is not an ideal trail for any dog that you will have to lift. There are numerous ledges with a good bunch near vertical and shoulder length or higher. Thankfully, there was not really any spot that felt dangerous and by taking our time we made it up all of them. After that though there was no chance of us trying to descend the ledges.

So after going over to the true summit of Whiteface we just continued around The Bowl and then made our way down Dicey Mill. Dicey Mill has great footing for almost its entire length so it was an easy exit that way. I think overall it probably took just as long or maybe a bit longer going this way as it would have if we took our time and tried to safely make it down the ledges. People were doing it, so its possible, but just seems like a ton of work and little fun for our four legged friends.
