Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There were a few big sloppy puddles near the beginning, with some rocks and branches put down to help with crossing.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: As frequently noted by others, the steep parts going up to the summit are terribly eroded, but it's still a nice hike. Beyond the summit, the main trail is in much better shape. The path that goes down to the old mine starts just before the south cliffs, is very narrow, goes over some ledges alternating with forested parts, is steep in places, and is pretty obscure. There are a few small cairns along the way, and some blowdowns.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Bring your own doggie water. The south cliffs slope down gradually but then they end abruptly at the edges. You know what to do.
Bugs
Bugs: Mixed varieties of flying insects were there from the start. Strong chemical repellent helped. I had 15 minutes of peace at the south cliffs before an army of black flies suddenly attacked.

Comments
Comments: Allow plenty of time for this hike. It's harder than you might expect, but it has a lot of rewards to enjoy.
