Trails
Trails: Livermore Trail, Mt. Tripyramid Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Thursday, July 6, 2017
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: One other car in the Depot Lot at 8:20 & maybe a dozen there in the mid-afternoon return.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Fairly tame rock hops for both trips over Avalanche Brook just off Livermore. My 6 year old navigated all without difficulty.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Blazing was few and far between on the Mt Tripyramid Trails on the entire ascent to North Peak. Almost no blazing below the south slide to Livermore Rd. Bog bridges at the beginning/end of south part of the loop badly need replacing- trail widening/braiding starting to occur.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: 3 very friendly & well behaved dogs encountered on the ascent to and on top of Middle Peak.
Bugs
Bugs: The mosquitoes and gnats were brutal on Livermore Road and the Tripyramid Trail below the slides. Above the slides the breeze kept them at bay.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: A bit of forearm skin from a slip on the south slide. If found... eww.

Comments
Comments: Pretty quiet on the trails as we saw maybe 6-8 folks between North and Middle Peaks then no one else the entire loop up or down! Water crossings weren't bad and not as much mud as you'd think after all the rain last weekend. Buggy on the road but nice on the slides and above. Also of note, snakes on a slide! We saw a surprising amount of snakes (6-7 garter snakes) sunning themselves on the entire length of the south slide's rocks. They kept to themselves. I can't remember seeing more than 1 on a hike anywhere in the whites before. The loop trail needs some blazing and bog bridge love as noted above. Looked like part of the Livermore Road near Boulder Path had sustained damage from last week's rain as that was freshly fixed with the heavy equipment still there. Lots more soft sandy areas on the road than packed gravel as compared to last year as well. The blog is a bit behind for the trip reports but will catch up in the next week or so....
