Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No significant crossings along this route, a couple of small and easy ones. Although during and after heavy rain I'd stay off of the Great Gully Trail as the waterfall brook section could be dangerous.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Well, the Great Gully could use a little trimming back but it's remote and wild so it's great the way it is!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: very tough route for dogs, would not recommend it.
Bugs
Bugs: They're all out and they're all biting, bring your bug spray!

Comments
Comments: Airline, Spur, Randolph Path, Cliffway, Amphibrach, Link all in good shape. Airline, first two miles are fine, then there is some standing water and some muddy and eroded spots, but it looks like they are planning to add more water bars soon as there is marked flagging along the way. Chemin Des Dames, we descended it, very tedious to hike down, I'd recommend hiking up it if you've never done it before, same goes for the Great Gully, ascend don't descend. As for the Great Gully, pay attention when you cross the waterfall / brook section. You cross it twice, once right before the lemon squeezer, a short section where you can hike up through the brook or to the side, old orange blazes are in the brook, blue blazes on the left side. Above the lemon squeezer the trail heads steeply up through the scrub then eventually crosses the waterfall brook again, as soon as you cross the brook look up and to the left for a boulder with an obscured view of a blue blaze on it, right above this boulder the trail immediately bangs a left off the brook and way from it, if you find yourself going up the brook for any length of time you are going the wrong way!

If you're looking for a trail where there are very few people and a challenge, think of putting the Great Gully on your list!
