Comments
Comments: I decided on a whim to check out this peak after hiking in the Ferncroft area. I knew about the bootleg trail from prior exploration.

The easiest way to find it is to follow the logging road that runs behind the trailhead parking lot. It will climb and turn uphill. Keep straight on the road, ignoring any branching turns. At a T junction, keep going into the woods and look for faded red blazes.

I found the trail very difficult to follow on the lower slopes of the mountain, which have been logged over. I continually lost it, and was going blaze to blaze at many points. The blazes are inconsistent in shape and some are so faded they are nearly invisible. Higher up, the path is more defined. It also gets very steep climbing up the cone. There were a few deceiving spots where it looked like I was almost there, but then more steep up. The path leads right to the wooded summit and jar. Only a few entries in the register since 2015. I retraced the same route out, having equal difficulty following the blazes down. I would recommend having a compass bearing as a backup.

The trail itself was mostly dry. Lots of slash and mud along the logging road leading up to it, which made for some tiring footing.
